Planning a first time trip to India required a lot of studying and seemed daunting to us do-it-yourself travelers until we discovered Ganpat and his company – “Incredible Tours to India.” We, myself Marv, spouse Jeanne and adult daughter Elyse had 21 days available, plotted out where we wanted to go and then Ganpat organized everything from there: cities, hotels, drivers and guides. We had a quick breakfast and a dinner with his family the day we arrived and and spent an enjoyable evening with them. His wife Munni also sewed sarees for our daughter Elyse and for Jeanne. We felt that he took a sincere interest in our having a great trip.
Ganpat’s scheduling of our ambitious trip left us feeling refreshed and looking forward to each next adventure. We toured incredible forts, palaces and temples . At no time did we ever feel abandoned or unsafe. Ganpat was always responsive and reachable and our driver was with us at all times when we needed him.
We’ve always rented cars in other countries, but given our observations, would not recommend it for India which seems to have few white lines, traffic lights and drivers who actually follow set rules. Our drivers Vikram in Rajasthan and Shivan in Kerala and Tamil Nadu were understandable , dependable, courteous, punctual and skilled .
Ganpat also provided informative and well-educated guides who met us at each city so that we knew the significance of what we were looking at, again something do-it-yourselfers would likely miss. Having our own personal guide really helped – we could actually hear them and all were very knowledgeable and informative about their respective cities. The guides were also able to direct us to specific shops for quality handmade items so we didn’t have to navigate the individual street stalls. These places were reputable and we received our shipped purchases within one week of arriving home.
We stayed at wonderful hotels and havelis (for the most part). Each one was restful and each had a unique and charming character of its own. Our favorites in Rajastahn were the Royal Heritage Hotel in Jaipur, Gajner Palace in Gajner, SuryaGarh (particularly beautiful and opulent) in Jaisalmer and Balasamand Lake Palace in Jodhpur. Favorite lodgings in Kerala were Fragrant Nature in the Fort Kochi area, Niraamaya Retreats Cardomon Club in Kumily outside of Thekkady and SpiceTree Munnar located up a beautiful canyon outside of Munnar all in the hill station area. The food at the hotels was excellent with Indian and continental cuisine being offered at most. By the way, there was always an ample supply of bottled water.
Above all, our trip was very successful because of Ganpat’s care and personal touches. That’s what made his company such a fortunate choice for us. We’d highly recommend Ganpat to anyone considering a trip to India .
